Brian Sims, American hero: PA Dem state rep summons up the courage to spend eight full minutes video-ing and yelling at an old lady praying in front of an abortion clinic

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Brian Sims, now a Democratic state representative from Philadelphia, probably read that quotation from Shakespeare as a young boy and never dreamed that it could apply to him.
And yet just a few days ago–it did. Sims, perhaps by sheer happenstance, got a chance to demonstrate the courage, the steadfastness, and the all-around manliness that had undoubtedly lain dormant inside him until “this day” (to quote Shakespeare again) when he spotted on a sidewalk in his district one of the most frightening sights a human being could even imagine, much less see with his own eyes: a grandma-age woman walking up and down in front of the doors of a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic praying the rosary.
Any man would shiver in his boots at such a terrifying spectacle, and Sims was no exception. The fact that he had been captain of his college football team and, as this photo shows, towers physically over his fellow state legislators, made no difference. But Sims apparently remembered the old football adage: The best defense is a good offense. So he undoubtedly shut his eyes and went for it, like the guys who assaulted Omaha Beach on D-Day knowing that their chances of dying were better than their chances of surviving to sunset.
Here is the Daily Caller‘s report on Sims’s bravery beyond the call of duty, which, fortunately for posterity, he videotaped and posted on Twitter:
The awkward 8-minute video, made and posted by the state lawmaker three days ago, shows Sims confronting the woman and repeatedly mocking and belittling her stand.
“Today’s protester, now she is an old white lady who is going to try to avoid showing you her face,” Sims begins as he points the camera toward the woman. “But the same laws, luckily, that protect her from being out here also protect me from showing you who she is. And so my hope is that you’ll donate $100 for every extra hour that this woman is out here telling people what is right for their bodies.”

“How many children have you clothed today?” Sims shouted at the woman as she tried to keep her back turned. “How about many children have you put shoes on their feet today? Have you fed any children today or have you just stood out in front of a Planned Parenthood shaming people for something they have a Constitutional right to do.”

“Who’d have thought that an old lady would be outside a Planned Parenthood telling people what is right for their bodies,” he said. “What you are doing here is disgusting. This is wrong. You have no business being out here.”…

Shame on you! Shame! Shame! There’s no faith that tells you you are right and everybody else is wrong.

Don’t convince yourself that what you are doing isn’t extremely racist.

What a mensch!

The video (you can watch all eight minutes here) shows the woman desperately (or at least she’s pretending to be desperate) trying to call someone–but Sims tries to taunt her out of that maneuver, telling her that if she’s trying to reach the police, well, he knows them all as a legislator so that’s not gonna work.

And finally, as the Daily Caller reports:

“Let’s go protest out in front of her house and tell her what’s right for her body,” he told her. “This is a racist act of judgement.”

There is a wee bit of precedent on Sims’s part for this heroic act of confrontation with ultimate evil. In June 2018, when GOP Vice President Mike Pence visited Philadelphia, the big guy tweeted a photo of himself giving Pence a middle-finger salute along with this text:

OFFICIAL WELCOME: let me be the first to officially welcome you to the City of Brotherly Love and to my District! We’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the power of all people: Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Atheist, & Immigrant. So…get bent, then get out!

So it’s time, dear readers, to stand in solidarity with Brian Sims, the man who took on Grendel’s dam–and lived to tell the tale.

My suggestion for anyone near Philly: Go down to that Planned Parenthood clinic (address: 1144 Locust Street, Philadelphia 10197 right near downtown) to show Brian Sims where you stand–which is with him. Catholics, bring along your rosaries-don’t let that old lady think she’s the only one who can clack the beads. If you’re gay (as is Sims), make a sign that says “Gay and Pro-Life”–believe me, he’ll pick up the irony. And if you see Sims strolling the street on the lookout for his fearsome enemy, shout out a pleasant “Hi, Brian.” You’ll recognize him by his blue eyes, broad shoulders, and extraordinarily full beard. Since Saturday is abortion day at Planned Parenthood, that’s a good day to go.

Update: Here’s another Brian Sims video, posted on his Facebook page on April 18 (top row, second entry) in which our courageous crusader takes on a trio of young women and a young man also protesting in front of that Philly Planned Parenthood facility. Sims offers $100 to anyone who can name, i.e., doxx, these wicked “white…pseudo-Christian” young folks who oppose abortion. Such heroism! How dare those dastardly young folks smile cheerfully and mention “saving babies” in the face of the legislator who has made protecting the $1.3 billion abortion behemoth his personal cause! They’re worse than the “old white woman”!

Thanks to Philadelphia Inquirer op-ed contributor Christine M. Flowers for unearthing this.
